about the author
Welcome to my web site! My name is Guy Burt
and I'm a writer. My published novels are
After the Hole, Sophie and The Dandelion Clock,
and I also write for film and television. I am 28
and at the moment I live in Oxford, England.
about the web site
This web site is both for people who've read one of
my books and want to find out more about me and
what I write, and for people who are interested in
writing in general, and would like to gain an insight into
the various processes that make up writing a novel
or a screenplay.
I've therefore tried to include plenty of personal comments on my experiences from the time when I
started writing seriously (when I was 13), through my first attempts at writing for film, right up to details of
my current writing projects.

There are summaries of each of the three books, with press comments so you can see how they were
received, followed in each case by an 'author commentary' where I outline how the novel came to be
written and what it means to me. (If you want to get hold of any of the books, there are also links to let
you buy them online.)

In the film and tv section, you can read about my first television script (The Visitor, for Channel 4) and
catch up on news of the new film The Hole, based on my first novel and starring Thora Birch. There's
even a link here to the official The Hole web site, where you can 'tie a ribbon' in memory of the missing
teenagers...

The discussion forum is one area of the site I really hope you'll visit. It's a chance for anyone interested
in what I do to leave comments (or criticisms!) or to ask questions (though I've tried to answer some of
the more basic ones in the frequently asked questions page - which is where you should go if you want
to know where I get my ideas, or whether I have superstitious writing rituals...) I'll check in on the forum
at regular intervals to make my own contributions, and you can of course reply directly to others'
comments - just like a chat room.

I very much hope you enjoy the site and find something of interest here. If you have any suggestions
for how to improve it, or ideas for what you'd like to see included, do feel free to tell me about them on
the forum page. Happy surfing.
